Boy Scout troop holds fall Camporee
Boy Scout Troop 238 had an eventful fall Camporee at the Boothbay Region Fish & Game Club.
On Friday, October 23, they enjoyed a visit from Justin Fowlie, an officer in the Maine Warden Service, and they learned about his job and the training required to become a game warden. On Saturday, October 24, the troop met with Marine Patrol Officer Matthew Merriman to learn about his work and the similarities and differences between a game warden and a marine patrol officer. The Scouts were later visited by Troop Grandmothers, Jean "Nini" Thompson and Evelyn "Mema" Sherman, who stayed for lunch and provided delicious homemade desserts.
In the afternoon, a youth pistol safety course was provided by NRA instructor Linc Sample, which was followed by an exciting visit to Donn Page's garage where they Scouts learned about his car collection and just how much power is actually under the hood of a drag racer.
The troop concluded the Camporee by providing community service and volunteered at the Boothbay Railway Museum, where they were turned into zombies for the Ghost Train event.
Troop 238 would like to thank the members of the Boothbay Fish & Game club for allowing us to use their grounds and clubhouse - their generosity was greatly appreciated. We would also like to thank all our guest speakers for giving of their time to meet with the Scouts.
Southport Island's Troop 238 currently has three Eagle Scout projects in various stages of progress at the Southport Methodist Church, Boothbay Fish & Game Club, and Boothbay Railway Museum.
