Boothbay woman to serve two years for drug trafficking
A Boothbay woman accused of trafficking heroin was sentenced to prison in Lincoln County Superior Court.
Leslie Wedel, 45, of Boothbay pleaded guilty in late September to one count of Class B unlawful drug trafficking and will spend the next two years in prison.
Wedel was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but two years suspended and three years probation in September. Wedel had originally faced a much harsher penalty as she was originally charged with Class A aggravated trafficking, which carries a maximum penalty of up to 30 years in prison and up to $50,000 in fines.
Wedel was arrested originally by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in 2014 in Boothbay Harbor and was charged with Class A aggravated trafficking, Class C unlawful possession and Class C possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
Wedel has a previous conviction for unlawful trafficking from 2008 in Bath.
Wedel was rearrested in 2015 after she allegedly was seen driving a car in Boothbay Harbor by Boothbay Harbor Police Officer Nick Upham. During that time, Wedel's license was suspended for failure to pay child support.
She was eventually arrested by BHPD Officer Scott Mercier and charged with Class E operating after suspension. Because Wedel was on bail conditions at the time, she was also charged with Class E violating the conditions of her release.
Wedel's earliest release date will be April 9, 2017, according to the Maine Department of Corrections database.
