Boothbay town office closes early Friday due to computer problem
Early morning computer problems on July 11 resulted in the Boothbay municipal office closing at noon. When personnel arrived Friday morning, the staff couldn’t use the office computers or telephones. It was determined that a failure in the computer server’s new firewall system failed internally, causing the malfunction.
Around 9:30 a.m., Town Manager James Chaousis decided to close the office at noon. This allowed the technicians to realign the server’s new firewall by redirecting the server’s port. The technicians discovered the problem by 10:30 a.m. and by 2:30 p.m. it was fixed.
“When we first got here we didn’t know what the problem was,” Chaousis said. “We did a some troubleshooting over the phone, but it became evident we needed to close the office to determine what the problem was. They told us such a failure wasn’t uncommon in a new firewall so I’m not sure if this will be a problem again.”
The town office was fully operational Friday afternoon and reopened Monday morning, July 14.
