Boothbay takes down Lisbon in double OT
Seahawk freshman Moriah Smith recorded her second game-winning overtime goal of the season, this time in double OT, to give Boothbay a 2-1 win over the visiting Lisbon Greyhounds on Monday, Oct. 21.
Less than 30 seconds into the second 8-minute overtime, Smith pushed the ball into the goal getting past three Lisbon players and the Lisbon goalie.
The win was the final regular season game for both teams. Boothbay, seeded eighth in Class C South, improved to 5-9 while Lisbon, seeded seventh, fell to 7-6-1. The Seahawks will travel to Winthrop for the first round of the playoffs to face the 14-0 Ramblers. The Greyhounds will play Hall-Dale (11-3).
First quarter goals were scored by Lisbon’s Julia Quagliaral and Boothbay’s Bailey Lewis, on an assist by Smith. Quagliaral’s goal came after the fifth straight penalty corner try.
Smith’s other overtime goal of the season came in a 2-1 win at home over Oak Hill Oct. 8.
Lisbon held an 11-10 advantage in penalty corners.
The game featured fine defensive plays by Seahawk junior Ella Watts and freshmen Arabella Hodgdon, Olivia Carlson and Zuri Smith.
The date and time of the playoff game for the Seahawks will be announced.
