Boothbay sets town meeting, municipal elections for July 14

Date coincides with state primary elections

Boothbay voters will have a little extra time to elect a new selectman this year. Selectmen approved rescheduling the annual referendum town meeting and municipal elections to coincide with Maine’s rescheduled primary and referendum election in July. Both elections will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 14.

Boothbay’s annual referendum town meeting is typically the first Monday in May from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The state’s referendum and primary election were originally scheduled for Tuesday, June 9. The coronavirus resulted in both election dates being changed.

In Boothbay, six seats, all three-year terms, expire. Two selectmen’s terms are expiring: Mike Tomacelli and Kristina Ford. Each has served one term. Tomacelli is running for re-election. Ford is not. Two former selectmen are also running for the two expiring seats. The other candidates are Chuck Cunningham and Stephen Ham. There are three candidates for the Community School District seat. Incumbent Kari Babcock decided against running for another term. Candidates for the vacant seat are Kathleen Pearce, Steve Edwards and Abigail Jones. CSD Board of Trustees member Ashleeann Lowery decided against running for another term. No candidate returned nomination papers for the seat.

Also up for election are a Boothbay Region Water District Trustee’s seat and one BB-BBH Cemetery District Trustee’s seat. BRWD Trustee Kevin Anthony and Cemetery District Trustee Sara Fahnley are running unopposed for re-election.
