Boothbay region primary elections coming up on June 10
On June 10 residents of Edgecomb, Boothbay, Southport and Boothbay Harbor will be heading to the polls to vote in the primary election.
Residents will be voting to nominate candidates for senator, governor, representative to congress, state senator, representative to the legislature, register of probate, county treasurer, registrar of deeds, sheriff and district attorney. Candidates who are elected at the primary become eligible to run in the November 10, 2014 general election.
Residents receive a ballot for whatever party they have registered with: Democratic, Republican, or Green. This sometimes means that candidates are running unopposed. For example, both Michael H. Michaud and Gov. Paul LePage are running for governor in November. However, one is running as a Democrat and one as a Republican. So in the primary election, they are each running unopposed on their party's ballot.
Voting hours are between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. for all four towns, and voting takes place at the four town halls. Voters are encouraged to turn out and participate.
