How much do you know about what Lions clubs are about?

There are 72 clubs in Maine District 41. We spread out from Kittery to Mapleton and beyond into Canada. All funds raised from the public have to go back to the public - this is true of all our clubs. Each club follows Lions International rules and regulations but each club is also allowed to do things ‘their way.” Clubs are governed by a district governor and 1st and 2nd vice district governors.

Our club was issued a charter in 1953. In June we will celebrate 70 years of helping our community. Locally, our King Lion is Dr. Jay Andrews. We have a secretary, treasurer and a six-member  board of directors. We also have a tail twister who keeps things lively issuing fines for various reasons including a whole lot of fun.

Lions collect used eyeglasses and cell phones. We help with funding for eyeglasses and exams for local folks. We help the schools and community with vision screening, Santa Fund, tuxedo rentals, scoreboard for the Clifford Park ballfield, Food For Thought, and so much more. Our motto is “We Serve.” Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion.

Our club meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, September - June at 6 p.m. at the East Boothbay Fire Station at 2 School St. We have great dinners so pop on in and see what we’re all about. If you want to be a Lion all you have to do is ask.
