Boothbay Region Lions Club

Mon, 09/28/2020 - 8:00am

The Boothbay Region Lions Club met for a regular meeting on Sept. 23. We enjoyed a delicious meal of lasagna, garlic, bread, and dessert provided by our kitchen crew, Lions Jay, Mark and Barry. It was great to share a meal together; our first since the beginning of the year.

We will be having a Christmas raffle, as we did last year.  This is a major fundraiser for the club. We will be sharing more details in future columns and articles. We decided at this meeting that all the money raised from the Christmas raffle will be donated to the Boothbay Region Food Pantry.

The American Red Cross is having a blood drive at the YMCA on Oct. 1. We hope to have volunteers helping out for the first time since the pandemic began.

Our club will, once again, be sponsoring a Peace Poster contest for 11-, 12-, and 13-year-old students in the Boothbay and Wiscasset schools. Lion Karen will be in touch with the teachers to coordinate this contest. Completed posters from entrants must be judged and sent on to the District by Nov. 15.

We voted at this meeting to provide and install a new sink and faucet assembly for the kitchen at the East Boothbay Fire Station. We truly appreciate the town fire department allowing us to use this building as our club house, and we want to do our part in maintenance of the building.

We are actively recruiting new members to our club, and our Membership Chair Lion Barbara hopes to have a couple of prospective members visiting one of our regular meetings. With all the changes in our world, Lions have had to change as well. New members will not have to necessarily attend every meeting in person. There are many options now for attending meetings online. Check us out on the Lions Club International website or on our own Facebook page.

Our meeting ended as always with our Tail Twister Lion Mark levying fines, which is always good for a laugh. We do have fun as we endeavor to serve our community in the true spirit of Lionism.
