Boothbay Region Health Center welcomes Dr. Damon

Dr. Stuart N. Damon will be joining the staff of the Boothbay Region Health Center as medical director on June 1. Dr. Damon is a doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and is a Board-Certified Family Physician. He is a graduate of University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and has a master’s in physical therapy from Springfield College. He graduated from UMass Amherst with a bachelor of science in astronomy. He is also an associate clinical professor of medicine in the Division of Primary Care at the University of New England.

Damon did his residency at Eastern Maine Medical Center. And he has practiced medicine most recently at Islands Community Medical Center on Vinalhaven and at Nasson Healthcare in Springvale, Maine. He has worked as a hospitalist at New England Rehabilitation Hospital. Stuart also worked as an emergency medicine physician at Togus VAMC; Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico; North Adams Regional Hospital in North Adams, Massachusetts; and at Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast, Maine. Stuart served on active duty as a lieutenant in the US Naval Reserve from 1985 to 1989.

One of Damon's specialties is pain management and pain relief, and he is also skilled in treating substance use disorders. He welcomes local patients seeking medically-assisted treatment for substance misuse.

In his teaching role at the University of New England, Damon runs a robotics lab, in which he designs medical simulations for medical students in order to expose them to challenging symptoms and scenarios.

The Health Center board is thrilled to have a member of the UNE faculty on its staff and hopes to welcome medical students as residents and interns. Dr. Damon joins Allan S. Teel, M.D., and Susan Lord, APRN, FNP on the Health Center staff. Stay tuned for updates about additional new providers joining us this summer.
