Boothbay planning board changes location
The Boothbay Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15 in the Boothbay Region YMCA. The board scheduled the special meeting last month after tabling the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ request for a permit. The CMBG requested a building permit to begin construction on its $30 million-plus expansion project. The board has twice tabled a vote.
The project has received approval from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and Army Corps of Engineers. But the project as it’s currently being proposed has received opposition from the Anthony family, whose property borders the Botanical Gardens, and from others concerned about potential negative environmental impacts on nearby Knickerbocker Lake.
The Anthony family has appealed the DEP’s permit. Kevin Anthony owns property on Gaecklein Road and is the son of Vaughn and Joanne Anthony whose property borders the Botanical Gardens. Kevin Anthony said the family is considering appealing the planning board’s decision if the board approves a permit as the project is currently proposed.
