Dear Editor:

Boothbay needs to go back to an annual town meeting before next year’s election day to determine who gets tax dollars and who doesn’t and what amount of tax dollars should be donated to non-profits.

A town meeting would give the non-profit organizations an opportunity to present their case for the donation dollars of the townspeople.

I looked over the list and was shocked at the amount that some organizations are asking for. And I was shocked to see who some of the organizations making the requests are. The townspeople have got to stop saying yes to every request and thus, unwittingly raising our own taxes. Townspeople of Boothbay, please, say no!

Times are difficult on many area families and we cannot afford to be raising our own taxes because we want to be generous. We also need to use wisdom and common sense. Townspeople of Boothbay, vote on May 1 and please vote no.
