Eight boats completed the sixth annual Foundation Cup race. All three classes started together and in a nice northwest breeze paraded out around Squirrel Island and back to the inner harbor. The race was a fast two hours and great fun. The total fleet was made up of three classes: J-80, Boothbay Harbor One Designs and Cruising class. The race was time corrected based on New England PHRF class ratings and shows any boat can join in on the fun at BHYC sponsored races.

Our results are as follows: first place, Ghost, Ken Colburn family and friends; second place, Wildfire, Patty Berger and friends, third place, C-Fever, Carol Sewell Chuck Cook and Toby Clarkson; fourth place, Zephyr, Ken Culbert and family; fifth place, Sapphire, Jon Dunsford and Lee Corbin; sixth place, Mumtaz, Rick Mitterling and friends; seventh place, Wired, Dwight Polar and friends; and eighth place, Never Too Late, Ugo Boggio and crew.

The long planned and much anticipated Dinner Dance was last Saturday night. Sharma Schacknow and her mighty committee treated the club to “A Magical Evening in Morocco.” From the dark tended entry to the over the top table decorations, they lived up to their year-long mission. Chef Raymond showed the club yet again that his menus come from around the world. The Capitol Band played throughout cocktails and dinner and then it was time to dance. Almost everyone came in costume. It was most certainly a creative, colorful and entertaining evening.

The season continues to fly by. BHYC’s annual meeting is this Saturday. Up next is The Day Afloat Aug. 31 organized by Bill and Heidi Hunt. A day on the water for a treasure hunt of clues followed by and awards dinner.
