Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club
Last week we learned about our website Clubrunner. You can easily find member contacts and even upcoming events. But, I will tell you about next week anyway because I am really looking forward to it.
This week, we are so fortunate to welcome Tom Verde, author of “In A Class All Their Own: Unique and Historic Boats of New England.” Tom will give us a glimpse of some of the classic boats of New England including some of the very unique ones from Maine. He will take us on an exploration of some of these unique boats through stories, photos and videos. These stories include the fabled history of the cat boat, the first fiberglass sailing Yacht and the Jazz Era of luxury yachting or the oldest working fishing boat in Stonington, Maine. He will discuss several of the boats featured in his book, including their classes and designers, as well as their relationship to the waters and eras they sailed in.
Tom is an author and freelance journalist who writes for the New York Times, National Public Radio and many other news outlets. He is still an avid boater even after running aground and colliding with the Longfellow Bridge during his first solo sail on the Charles River in Boston.
The Big, Gray Rotary Barn is open every Saturday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. We are accepting donations. Just call or text our new phone number, 207-619-1417 for pick up or drop off plans. Your generous donations and shopping support the many programs of the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club including our Food Pantry soup project. The Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club and our chef Amy Ronan, have cooked, labeled and delivered around 4,000 pints of homemade, delicious soup to the Food Pantry since the project started in 2021. All possible because of your donations.
If you're interested in the fun and work of Rotary, join us any Thursday evening at 6 for a dinner and our meeting. Our Clubhouse is located at 66 Montgomery Road, Boothbay Harbor.
