Boothbay Harbor Commodore’s Cup Race Day 2 in the outer harbor part of the ‘Summer of Sail 2021’

Race Day 2 for the Commodore Cup series was July 31. The current BHYC commodore was acting as race officer for the first time in recent memory. Commodore Liz Rettenmaier had a challenging first race to organize with a light westerly breeze in the harbor. Excitement picked up as the winds shifted 90 degrees and increased 5 knots during the first start sequence. Nine boats sailed in three classes.

In the Cruising Division, Two Dogs, with skipper Stott Carleton and a crew of teenagers including his two Sears Cup qualifying granddaughters, outpaced Greyhawk in corrected time in both races.

In the Racing Division, each of the J/80's, Ghost and Skyrocket, took one race apiece for a tie on the day.

In the Boothbay Harbor One Designs, our own classic sailboat, we had three races. Number 25, Charisma, won the day and the Commodore's Cup in her class, ably handled by father and son Hakanson.

The next event in the “Summer of Sail 2020” series is the annual BHOD Regatta to be held Saturday, Aug. 7 at 1:30 p.m. This annual race of the BHOD fleet often attracts many once-a-year racers. The Regatta will also be open to any racing and cruising class racers that have PHRF ratings. The details are all explained in the Sailing Instructions.
