Boothbay football drops final regular season game to Dirigo

Boothbay football’s 2023 season has been a bit of a roller coaster ride. The team started in September losing the first two of its first three contests, rebounded to win two in a row, and finished losing its last two. On Oct. 13, Boothbay lost the last regular season game to Dirigo 45-0. Despite a lopsided loss, Coach Ed Crocker saw great improvement from the Oct. 6 loss to Sacopee Valley who beat his team 50-22 at Sherman Field.

“I thought we hit harder against Dirigo which was a big improvement,” Crocker said. “We also moved the ball against them, but turnovers ended drives in their territory. Our defense made some plays, but Dirigo kept on making bigger plays on third down.”

Starters Aidric Canada and Maddox Cusumano left the game due to injuries. Boothbay finished the season 3-5 and placed fifth in the Crabtree 8-man Football Southern Divison standings. Boothbay will travel to Hiram to face No. 4 Sacopee Valley in the quarterfinals. The winner plays either No. 1 Old Orchard Beach or No. 8 Mt. View in two weeks.
