Boothbay extends nomination paper due date by one day

Impending storm results in town moving due date to Friday

Boothbay candidates seeking a municipal office will have one extra day to turn in their nomination papers. The due date was March 8, but an impending snowstorm has resulted in town officials closing the municipal office on Thursday. The due date was extended after town officials consulted with Maine Municipal Association about handling the situation.

So far, five candidates are circulating nomination papers for two selectmen positions. Candidates include incumbents Steve Lewis and Dale Harmon. Both men have returned their nomination papers. Challenger Michael Pander has also returned his, but two others haven’t. Challenger Catherine Sherrill and Rachel King will both have an additional day to return their required 25 signatures of registered voters.

In other races, Troy Lewis has returned his nomination papers for Community School District Trustee. John Bertolet is seeking another term as a Superintending School Commitee member. He also has returned his nomination papers. Kim W. Pinkham is also running for re-election for another term on the Cemetery District board of trustees.

Nell Tharpe is seeking election  as Boothbay Region Water District trustee. She has not returned her papers. Town Clerk Lynn Maloney has contacted all candidates who haven’t returned their papers about the new deadline. All municipal elected terms are for three years.
