Boothbay Community Garden gets ready for second season
Last summer, the community garden at the Rittall Farm on Route 27 produced great quantities of carrots, beans, potatoes, squash and more.
Most produce was contributed to the food pantry with a portion going to volunteers.
At the end of the season, pumpkins were contributed to children's programs in the community.
This season, more volunteers are needed to prepare the soil, seed and plant, weed and harvest.
There may also be opportunities for community members to rent individual plots of land. Planting will take place this Saturday, May 24, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Rittall Farm (across from Miss Piggy on Route 27 in Boothbay).
Everyone is welcome to help. Please bring a hand trowel, garden gloves, sun screen and bug protection. Sign ups for ongoing farm volunteers and for garden plots will take place as well. In addition, Scott Rittall has organized bands to play at the Farm on Sunday, My 25, from 1-6 p.m. as a farm learning center fund raiser. Stop by if you can with your chairs and treats.
