There is another reason for dog owners to send their best friend to Boothbay Canine Daycare and Boarding. An experienced groomer is now on hand for beautifying dogs during their stay. Jasmine Landmann has operated a grooming business for a couple years in her Whitefield home. But she began researching local dog grooming opportunities when her family planned on moving to the area.

This led her to contact Carole Jordan, who opened Boothbay Canine in 2018. After a short discussion, Landmann agreed to rent space and open a second location to Addie May’s Grooming Service. The business is named after Landmann’s 15-month-old daughter. Landmann began her career in dog grooming working for PetSmart in Augusta. There, she learned how to groom dogs through online courses and a free academy provided by her employer.

“I learned in the corporate manner, but I wanted to do it a different way,” she said. “I wanted to find a more homey way to care for dogs. Later, I worked for a private salon, and eventually I opened my own shop. I love dogs and enjoying making them look beautiful,” she said.

Her services include bathing, nail clipping, ear cleaning, along with a complimentary dog hair clipping, brushing and drying. Cost depends on dog type ranging between $40 and $70. In dog grooming, Landmann believes having good communications with her clients’ owners is an essential part of grooming. “It’s important in getting to know them because they let you know what you need to care for their dogs,” she said.

Landmann also cited a deep love of dogs as a key ingredient in providing high quality care. “It’s a great job, but you really need to love what you do. If not, then you will probably burn out, pretty quickly,” she said.

Addie May’s Dog Grooming Service is open Monday through Friday in Boothbay. Customers can also book weekend grooming with an appointment. The business phone number is 207-530-7904.
