Boothbay bested by Carrabec in playoff

Fri, 06/02/2023 - 8:30am

The Boothbay Region Seahawks were defeated by the Carrabec Cobras, 3-2, in the semifinal match of the Class C South boys tennis tournament in Boothbay Harbor June 1.

Playing under sunny skies and humid temperatures, the two teams met for the fourth time this season. BRHS had defeated Carrabec twice, including edging the Cobras to win the Mountain Valley Conference championship match on May 26. Carrabec’s only win against Boothbay before Thursday’s match was a 3-2 win on May 11.

Carrabec won first singles and both doubles matches while Boothbay took second singles and third singles (by default).

Boothbay, which was ranked #1, ends the season with a 10-2 record. Carrabec, which was seeded fourth, moved on to the Class C South championship match with the win.

The 2023 Seahawk team featured no seniors and should compete well next season. The roster included juniors Rodi Mayne, Andrew Fowlie and Colby Allen; sophomores Cleyton Splaine, Chase Mansfield, Sawyer Blake and Neal Baldwin; and freshmen Griffin Yereance and Harry Hinckley.
