Bobby Reed and Wild Horse Band will sing at St. Andrews Village
Bobby Reed’s favorite thing about the music business is that feeling he gets when he looks out on an audience and sees smiling faces.
“When I am standing on a stage and the audience is dancing and laughing and having a good time, then they are forgetting about their cares for a while,” said Reed. “Everybody deserves a good time.”
Reed, a native of Boothbay Harbor, started The Wild Horse Band about 20 years ago. The band will play at St. Andrews Village on May 16 at 2 p.m., following an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for 69 and 106 Emery Lane.
Offered at $245,000 and $275,000 respectively, Cottages 69 and 106 offer two bedrooms, two baths, a one-car garage, beautiful landscaping and many extras, including a large living room, private three-season porch or year-round heated sunroom. As part of St. Andrews Village, both cottages also offer safety and convenience and access to a full continuum of services.
The Wild Horse Band plays mostly traditional country music, including songs made famous by the likes of Johnny Cash, Meryl Haggard, George Jones and Waylon Jennings. Two favorites that may be featured at the May 16 event include Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” and Jennings’ “Good Hearted Woman.”
Reed and his band are favorites on Maine’s country scene, having won Downeast Country Music Association’s Traditional Main Vocalist of the Year and Traditional Country Band so many times they are in the “all-time great” category.
They have also made themselves known outside of the state, winning North American Country Music Association Group of the Year in 2007 and Traditional Country Band of the Year and Vocal Group of the Year in 2006.
For Reed and the band, however, country music is not about fame or money, it’s about connecting with an audience and the music itself.
Growing up, Reed remembers singing along with the car radio to every kind of music, but country was always his favorite.
One of the more difficult aspects about being in the country music business in Maine is that travel, often for hours, is an almost inevitable part of every gig. Reed said it’s nice to be playing at St. Andrews, close to home.
The other members of the band are Brian Gelina, on guitars and vocals, Harry Bailey on bass guitar and vocals and Jimmy Walker on drums and vocals.
“I have some really good musicians with me. I am really lucky. We work as a team,” said Reed.
