The Coast Guard Sector Northern New England out of South Portland reported that two lobster fishing vessels collided about nine miles south of Boothbay Harbor around the Pumpkin Ledge area Saturday morning, Sept. 23. Boats from the Boothbay Harbor Coast Guard station, investigators from Coast Guard Sector Northern New England Command Center and officers from Maine Marine Patrol responded to an 8:15 a.m. distress call.

Each boat had two people aboard when the 38-foot Delusional began taking on water after colliding with the 42-foot Triton. The crew of Triton assisted Delusional's crew aboard their boat to wait for assistance from the Coast Guard and another fishing vessel. Authorities reported no injuries.

The Boothbay Register could not reach either vessel’s crew for comment. A Coast Guard press release gave the weather as “limited visibility due to fog (approx. 50 yards visibility), seas of three to five feet, and five to ten knot winds.”
