Blethen, Erhard and boys win big at Hall-Dale meet

Wednesday, Sept. 7 was so humid, a person could break a sweat by raising an eyebrow. Despite the hostile weather conditions, Boothbay Region High School cross country teams did extremely well at the University of Maine at Augusta campus in an eight-school meet hosted by Hall-Dale. Boothbay runners won both the boys and girls races and the boys team lodged its first win of the season.
“The race at UMA went quite well for BRHS. The course was difficult and the heat was brutal, but I was impressed with everyone's efforts and very pleased with the final outcomes,” Coach Nick Scott said.
“Among the meet’s highlights, Blake Erhard enjoyed his well-deserved, first ever cross country victory, Faith Blethen continued her undefeated streak against MVC competition and the boys' team captured their first victory of the season with a convincing win over Lisbon, Hall-Dale, and Oak Hill.”
In the boys race, Erhard, a sophomore, bested the competition, finishing the course first in 19:18. Also scoring for Boothbay were Kyle Ames, (third, 19:47), Will Perkins, (sixth, 20:55), Rowan Kristan, (eighth, 21:22) and Will LeBrecque, (10th, 21:52). Sam Betts, (13th, 22:51) and Bayly Gaughan-Carrasco, (15th, 23:02) rounded out the top seven for Boothbay. Boothbay won the meet with 24 points, followed by Lisbon, 41, Hall-Dale, 78 and Oak Hill, 104.
In the girls race, Faith Blethen dominated the competition, winning the meet in 21:23, just shy of two minutes faster than her nearest competitor. Kate Friant finished third in 24:51, Loren Genrich fifth in 25:39 and Lincoln Hamblett 18th in 30:17. With only four runners in the race, the Lady Seahawks were unable to score as a team. Monmouth won the girls event with 17 points. Oak-Hill, with 46 points, was the only other school with enough female runners to score.
Wednesday, Sept. 14 brings one of the highlights of the cross country season: the BRHS home meet. The race begins at Sherman Field at 4:15 p.m. The race is always a crowd pleaser and it’s a great opportunity to show support for the home team.
