In celebration of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, known for his love of all of God's creatures, over 20 churches around Maine will hold Blessing of the Animals prayer services.

St. Patrick Church, 380 Academy Hill Road, Newcastle will hold its service Saturday, Oct. 1 from 2 to 2:30 p.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 2, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 82 Atlantic Avenue, Boothbay Harbor will hold its service from 8 to 8:30 a.m.

Animal lovers are invited to bring their pets to have them blessed and gently sprinkled with holy water. The services are a way of thanking God for the pets that bring joy to so many. People of all faiths are welcome!
