Beer tasting at Southport Yacht Club
There is much going on at the Southport Yacht Club in the next few days. On Friday evening, July 26 there will be another annual beer tasting at 5:30 p.m.
This is the weekend of the Seguin Island Trophy Race which attracts many of our great sailors who regularly sail in the Gulf of Maine Racing Association.
Information about the times for skipper meetings and starting times are available on the SYC website, www.southportyachtclub.org. Following the Saturday races there will be a gathering at the club beginning at 4:30 p.m. A site of the SYC E-blast will guide you to the place to make your reservations. There will be a blessing of the fleet of our new 420s during the post-race party.
We hope everyone will have an opportunity, either on the water or on the land, to enjoy these special events in the life of SYC. There is a new addition for the party which is a blueberry baking competition. All you wonderful cooks are invited to pull out your special recipe and bring your creation down to the club by 4:30 p.m. There will be a judging and a prize will be awarded.
The Norma Smith race was held last Saturday with 21 boats on the line. First place went to Trevor Britton in Hi Ho, second after a tie-breaker went to Kevin Kershaw in Sea Glass and third was Ben and Ian Wallace in Rubber Ducky.
Future events to keep in mind include the second member-guest Lobster Dinner on Saturday, August 3. You will need to make your reservation specifying you choice of lobster, steak, kids meals and either first or second sitting.
On Sunday, August 4, the annual SYC Golf Tournament will be held at 1 p.m. A signup sheet is available in the club and you can call Ron Schlemmer 207-633-5729 for additional information. The Arts and Crafts show will be held on August 10 and 11. Please call if you have something to enter or you can find a couple of hours to work on the show: 207-633-2117.
There is a membership survey on the website, which the Long-Range Planning committee urges all to review and fill out by August 5.
As we enter our ninth decade we hope to continue to serve our members with quality events and programs as we approach our 100th anniversary in 2023.
