Beat the winter blues
Pamper yourself this year. Eliminate anxiety, increase your peace of mind, and enjoy life more. Respond creatively to life’s many challenges. Join Patty Seybold, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoons at the Community Center for a series of interactive discussions and videos to discover the “Three Principles” that govern how our minds actually work. Discover how your mind, consciousness, and thought work to trigger your feelings. Patty explains: “If you let these principles work within you as nature intended, you’ll experience less anxiety and stress, less frustration and overwhelm, and less depression. You’ll find yourself able to relax more, to laugh more, to go with the flow. You’ll no longer feel out of control or overwhelmed, you won’t become angry at other people, or get frustrated because of things outside your control. Instead, you’ll gain peace of mind, you’ll think of things at the right times to just get them done, you won’t be angry or resentful, and you’ll enjoy life more. Instead of constantly worrying about things, you’ll gain creative, fresh insights.”
Seybold has been learning and working with the Three Principles for over a year, with her coach, Dr. Annika Hurwitt, who lives and practices in Rockland. The Three Principles: Mind, Consciousness & Thought were first articulated by a Canadian mill worker, Sydney Banks, in the 1970s. Hurwitt, a practicing psychologist, discovered these Three Principles, and studied with Sydney Banks, after realizing that these principles explained the functioning of the human mind better than what she had studied in psychology. She has been a full-time practitioner in the Three Principles for 20 years.
Seybold has had great results from incorporating what she has learned so far into her life and her work. She’s eager to share what she’s learned and to join with others in a study group to continue to discover the way that our minds, consciousness, and thoughts determine how we perceive reality. “The most important thing I’ve learned is that all of my feelings always come from my own thoughts in the moment,” Patty said. “Nothing that happens, or nothing anyone says makes me feel a certain way. It’s my thoughts that trigger my feelings. I don’t need to focus on positive thinking, or meditate, or do anything special. All I do is notice what I’m feeling, and if I don’t like it, I just remind myself that those feelings of anxiety, or fear, or overwhelm, or resentment, or anger, or insecurity are coming from my own thinking in the moment. As soon as I realize that, the thought evaporates and the feeling dissipates. What’s amazing to me is that I had to be 66 years old before I discovered how my mind is naturally designed to keep me happy and healthy. The more I discover, the more joy keeps pouring into my life. I’m really privileged to be able to share my discovery with anyone else who wants more peace of mind, be less overwhelmed, and experience more joy. We can learn and explore together.”
Each free one-hour session includes theory, practice, discussion, and a video. Dr. Hurwitt recommends that you plan to participate in at least four or five sessions in order to begin to experience for yourself how these principles work for you. Come discover and appreciate the way your mind naturally creates joy, peace of mind, and timely insights, if you let your mind do its job the way it was designed to do. And beat those winter blues!
