Bayville Buzz
It is always a given that at this time of year the boats and the Buzz become less plentiful. Those who have stuck around have been rewarded with some of the best weather of the season - too bad that we just had Labor Day and not Memorial Day. Though the days are getting shorter, at least we don't set the clocks back until Nov. 5.
Though the Buzz is winding down for another season, fear not, the greatest Buzz ever (I know, that's not saying much) will be gracing this column after Columbus Day weekend. It is a poem written about the end of summer by a guest at the Bayville Inn almost 100 years ago.
In a classic sign of government inefficiencies (both parties are usually at fault), the newly paved Route 96 is now being torn up for water pipes to East Boothbay. Really? They couldn't put the pipe down before the paving? There is even talk of a sewer to East Boothbay. They wouldn't dig it up again, would they? Logic would say it makes sense to do both at the same time. These aren't my thoughts but the questions asked to a friend by their 11-year-old.
However, there are exceptions to the inefficiencies. The recent entry lane where Route 27 and Route 1 meet is brilliant! A low cost and effective solution to a big problem. I say promote whoever came up with that one!
Congratulations to whoever won the tuna tournament. I was out on the water and did see some boats all lit up coming in at night which looked pretty cool and I guess means the crew had caught one. I hope everyone had a fun and profitable time.
Let's hope that when you are reading this the news on Hurricane Lee is that it is passing well to our east and has caused minimal damage along its path.
