Bayville Buzz
With the beautiful weather arriving - if only temporarily - Linekin Bay suddenly resembled the activity of an elementary school playground after the bell for recess. I must be dating myself with that reference. Craft (and people) of all shapes and sizes were zipping, sailing, paddling and tubing all about and the warm water temps in the 70s only added to the joy for those swimming.
As usual, Fire Pit Spence was spinning the tunes, but in a new twist, the gen x's, z's and millennials stepped up and made their own selections. Haven Merrill, the youngest attendee, must have enjoyed the show as she was there right until the end. For reporting purposes only, I had to stick around too. Brian McNamara was on standby to make sure everyone behaved.
The Jordan Compound is a busy place. Will and family have currently taken up residence and John et al are about to join them soon. In addition to all that, Rudy has a new puppy to add to the fun and chaos. Yes, sad to report that Red has gone to the big doghouse in the sky.
Thomas and Linda Hultin departed for Paris this past Saturday and returned Monday evening. While there, they slipped over to Norway to visit the "World's Fair." We can only assume they are staying in Maine, but with those two, who knows. They recently went to Boston for a few days to celebrate Linda's Birthday. While there, they stopped in and visited Barrett Gilchrist. Sadly, Parkinsons has hit him not only hard, but fast.
Yes, ticks are nasty. A few people in Bayville have confirmed cases of Lyme. Whether it was contacted in the Village, or somewhere else, is not known. What is known is to be vigilant because if one more incident occurs our borders will be closed and the aerial spraying begins. We are all told to tuck our pants into our socks, but since we are all wearing shorts, maybe someone needs to design and sell really long socks.
Our own Captain Craig Collins has begun running charters on his beautiful boat, Radiant around our beautiful Bay. You can learn more at linekinbaysailing.com
Lobster Lovers Unite! In addition to the good news on regulations for our local lobsterman, Bayville's Lobster Bake is back. Though the bake never went away, the lobsters took a one year hiatus. Get ready to celebrate their return on the night of Aug. 5. Yes, that is also the date of the Bayville Village Corporation annual meeting, which starts at 9 a.m. Of course there will be another round (or two) of the Bayville Buzz libation competition during cocktail hour that night. Sign up sheets for the bake are at the Post Office and Phil and his committee beg and plead with everyone to please sign up right away to help in their planning and ordering. The committee volunteers their time and hard work for everyone's enjoyment, so let's make their jobs a lot easier and sign up now.
July 29 is a huge day with the PickleBall Tournament at 8 a.m., Kids Scavenger Hunt at 10 and Waterfront Festival (with hotdogs) and the Ice Cream Social to follow. The day has turned into a huge celebration and you don't want to miss it.
The night of Aug. 4 brings Movie Night at the outdoor movieplex at the Community House. The family friendly film is yet to be announced.
Sunday, Aug. 13, brings the real athletes out for the 11th annual Cabbage Island Swim, which begins (and ends) at the Collins/Gardiner dock. In addition to the swimmers, there is always a nice flotilla of kayakers and paddleboarders to accompany them on their journey. Come join the fun, on - or in - the water.
Speaking of competition, Alina Blakesley has returned from her dance events in Budapest. She has danced her way through Europe before, but this was part of her year long celebration for turning 75. She competed in 23 different dances. The styles included Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep,Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble. Alina placed first or second in all events! As she points out, there aren't a lot of people her age still competing, but I say that is testament to her and her youthful energy. Perhaps we should all be swimming year round in Linekin Bay. After her dancing she went and enjoyed some more sightseeing in Vienna.
Robert stayed on this continent to take care of Lucky (the dog) and Mitzy (the cat). Robert was well fed by Meals on Wheels and Billy and Lyn helped out with dog walking duties. Neighbors helping neighbors. Have a great week and please, send your news to thejeffallison@gmail.com
