Bayville Buzz

Mon, 10/25/2021 - 11:00am

One thing is certain and that is that Bayvillians know how to celebrate and on Oct. 9, that talent was raised to a new level. Spencerville was the place to be as Bayville’s very own Mark Spencer said good-bye to a long, successful and rewarding career flying around the world with Delta. Delta’s loss is certainly Bayville’s gain as Spence has contributed so much of his time and resources to so many of the villages events.

My travels continue in Europe, but once again, Thomas Hultin has come through so that the proceedings were recorded for all to enjoy in the Buzz.

“The evening got off to a quick start with the entire Bayville crowd attending. It was a see and be seen event and all who weren't in attendance had their Bayville loyalties questioned. All the way from those just about to turn 21 (within hours) to the senior patriarchs and matriarchs of various cottages. A spectacular spread of food was presented including one of the most artistic charcuterie/cheese tables ever seen put together by Luci Nielsen. It was one of the most impressive, artistic prize winning displays I have ever seen, including the stunning bouquets that adorned every table. What a talent she is! A full suite of Boothbay Brewery beers were offered, minus their 14% ABV stout which was probably best, together with a full bar.

The live band, Dixson Rd, played a solid four hours of a large repertoire of music, causing both the young and geriatric to get out there and twist on the lawn. Miraculously no one got hurt. Even the likes of Phil Roberts were seen dancing with Alina.

The crowd dwindled during the evening according to age. The oldest leaving first while it was still dusk and before the Fireball came out, then dwindling down to the youngest in the early AM hours. The one exception was the Allison sisters (Laura and Karen McNamara) who begrudgingly left after midnight.”

Glad to hear that my sisters stayed until the very end! Unfortunately, there was no news from them - something about self incrimination.

There is some story about Shaun the Oyster Shuck extraordinaire living it up with Brian McNamara and his friends (Brian was the one turning 21 that day). At this point, there are no details, other than the fact that Shaun shucked over 250 oysters that evening and deserved to celebrate. Stay tuned for further details on that, as well as my sisters escapades. I’m sure some good Phil stories will emerge as well. Feel free to send any news on them - or anything else - to thejeffallison@gmail.com

Congratulations again Spence and thank you for your great reporting Thomas!
