The Bayville Buzz

The stretch of beautiful weather continues ... the water temperature has gone from very warm to comfortably refreshing. Lights are on in almost all the houses and we continue to miss those who have not made the journey here because of the virus. With the beautiful weather comes more late night porch parties and a few more noise complaints. A worthwhile trade in my mind, but do remember noise carries and that all conversations — and sounds — are public fodder. Some of the more pleasant sounds wafting through the village include laughter, swimming, boating and even Marco Polo.

Turns out it may not be too late to join Captain Spence on a flight to Tel Aviv. That’s right, for the first time ever, the Buzz may have gotten a story wrong as Mark Spencer may delay his retirement for another year. I guess Barbara might not be quite ready for all that together time.

Not that I like talking politics, but for the first time in my lifetime — and I’ve been around awhile — some political type signs are being displayed in Bayville. I think I’m OK in assuming they will be voting for different candidates.

Bayville was largely spared by tropical storm Isaias.  There were high winds and a very high tide, but little rain.  The morning after the storm revealed clear skies and small branches down all around the village, but no apparent major damage.

Ginger Robitaille, entomologist extraordinaire, has discovered the Hickory Tussock caterpillar here in Bayville. No laughing matter as these white colored creatures can cause severe reactions in some people. The even more fearsome Brown Tailed caterpillar is also in these parts, so make sure your kids — and yourself — are aware.

Speaking of the Robitailles,  Drew and his family passed their Covid tests and are here visiting from Virginia.

Rachel Roberts continues to cruise in style on a 125’ yacht. She is currently enjoying some time in Chicago. I’m not sure if the boat is there with her.

Perry Bradley Jr. is in town from Cincinnati with his family. Another causality of the virus is that there will be no repeat of the well attended  — and very fun — porch party at their place last year.

There have been lots of nature sightings by this family this summer; bald eagles, blue herons, ospreys, fox, deer, river otters, pogies and one striper. Have not seen the rumored bear.

Liz Bagonzi has been here most of the summer and is enjoying frequent visits from her kids Allison and Jack and Jack’s girlfriend, Jenny. Speaking of girlfriends, I hear Alex Nielsen was here with his.

After extensive landscaping by Alton, Mary Hatch’s wild flower garden has begun to take bloom and looks beautiful!

Next time you take a walk by the Friendship Garden you will now see that the Memorial Stone has been engraved with the words, “In memory of friends and loved ones who have passed this way.” I hope everyone agrees that the garden and the stone are a great addition to the village and a fitting tribute to all of us who have ever enjoyed the camaraderie and beauty of Bayville.
