Bath tree warden speaks to Garden Club
Thomas Hoerth, the City of Bath’s arborist and tree warden, will be the featured speaker at the Boothbay Region Garden Club meeting Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Hoerth will speak about his favorite subject: trees, their maintenance, care and protection. He received his bachelor’s degree studying plant and soil science in 1987 at the University of Maine in Orono and worked on his master's in plant genetics.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, spent time in New York, Massachusetts , Washington, D.C. and Connecticut before coming to Maine in 1981. He holds many licenses and endorsements as well as belonging to a long list of professional associations, memberships, boards and committees. In addition to his employment with the City of Bath, he is an adjunct instructor at Southern Maine Community College.
He has two daughters and his wife Jennifer with whom he plays music. She plays the Dobro while he plays the bass. They also love singing, canoeing, biking, cooking (on their wood stove) and eating. They recently bought land north of Bath where they plan to build a timber frame house and three 30 by 100-foot greenhouses.
The Garden Club meeting will be at St. Columba’s Church on Emery Lane at 1 p.m. The meeting is open to everyone who would like to learn more about trees and Hoerth will also address issues about putting gardens to bed for the winter.
