Dear Editor:

The scammers have a new ploy. They are sending out what looks like a Wells Fargo check for over $4,000 to "HELP" pay for the processing fee for $350,000 you have won. The fee is a whopping $3,850 to be sent by certified check to an address they will give you by phone. Then a courier will bring you at check for the $350,000, your “winnings.”

I was suspicious enough to take the Wells Fargo check to Bath Savings Institute's general manager. She had it traced and found it to be fraudulant. If I had cashed it and drawn a certified check for the processing fee, and then the bank had foud the check to be fake, I would have had to pay the bank back for the certified check.

I am sure that I would never have seen the courier with the winning money.
