American Legion Post #36
We are now one week away from the Legion and Community Yard Sale and Craft Fair! Remember, this is a yard sale for the whole community. So, if you have summer “stuff” that you need to store until next year but decide you want to get new “stuff” instead, bring a table to the community yard sale. Or, if you are heading south for the winter and don’t want to store your summer things, bring a table and not worry about storage costs…might even be able to make enough money to pay for the gas going south.
This is a craft fair too! I have learned that many crafters are booked each weekend around the state before the summer begins. But, the “season” is winding down and local crafters who aren’t committed elsewhere will be at our craft fair.
But, for our local crafters who don’t typically go to these larger events around the state, this is a great opportunity to share your talents with our community. So, please consider joining us on the Boothbay Common, Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Legion has so much “stuff” that we will be using a large truck, as well as our trailers, to bring everything to the Common! This will be the largest Legion Yard Sale ever! Anyone wanting to set up their area on Friday afternoon will be able to do that.
We will be having hot dogs, hamburgers, water and soda for sale, so bring your appetites as well. It is important to remember that the proceeds from this event will be going to the Rowe Educational Scholarship! This is a win-win. You buy something you can’t live without and you help a student continue their education. If you are interested in joining us as a yard seller or crafter, call or email either Tom Moroney (504.638.6987/tamoroney63@gmail.com or David Patch (207.633.4487/dapatch66@gmail.com).
Pre-COVID, the Keive-Wavus Education organization held veterans camps several times a year. The good news, they are once again starting that practice! The summer camp is held in August at Camp Wavus after their girls’ summer camp season (you can learn more about their girls’ camp at https://www.kwe.org/wavus/).
And, starting again this year, they will be holding the Vietnam Veterans camp the Dec. 6 weekend. This weekend is for Vietnam era veterans and their spouses or significant others. The details for that camp are being worked out now. You can learn more about the camps and apply for them when registration opens by going to www.kwe.org/retreats/veterans. When more information is available, I will include that in this article.
