American Legion Post 36
With the Yard and Craft Sale just less than a couple of weeks away, there is still lots of room on the Common for others to join us with their crafts and their own yard sale. The Common will be open to set up on Friday, Aug. 4 from noon to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Please call the Legion at 633-4487, text Dave Patch at 751-5672 or email dapatch@roadrunner.com if you are interested in participating. Remember, this is our first fundraiser for the Post Henry Rowe Educational Scholarship. Just as a reminder, we will start moving all the items stored at the Hall on Friday starting at 10 a.m. Help is needed both at the Hall and at the Common. We will have 12 tables set up under the tent and all items will be arranged appropriately. Volunteers are needed to help in that process. On Aug. 5, Yard Sale Day, volunteers who will be needed on the Common at 6:30 a.m. to finalize the arrangements as items will be continually brought in right up to start time.
The Auxiliary will be serving breakfast sandwiches and the Post will be serving hot dogs and hamburgers. The Legion will have our tents set up on south side of the Common, the Community Tables opposite the Gazebo near the road, and the Craft Fair will set up on the North side of the common. There is power at each of the trees around the common for those that need them. All community tables/spaces will be on a first come basis. Donations for participating will be collected during the sale. The picnic tables will be in the center. There is plenty of space for everyone so please spread the word and encourage folks to have a table and join the Yard Sale. We can’t have too many participating Yard Sales on the Common! And, contrary to earlier fliers, this is a rain or shine event. The schedule is on our website, www.post36maine.org.
The next Veteran Support Group (VSG - gotta have an acronym!) is July 27 at 6 p.m. Remember, this group is for all veterans and is just an informal group to share and, perhaps get things off your chest that you might not be able to otherwise and know that you are amongst your brothers and sisters of service who aren’t judgmental and have your back. Open to all veterans whether you served two years or 30 (or more) or whether you served in combat or never left the states (which might have felt like combat sometimes).
The next breakfast is July 30 and next meeting is Aug. 14.
