American Legion Post 36
Our yard sale, Community Yard Sale, and community craft fair is a month away For those in the community who would like to join us on the Common in Saturday, Aug. 5, just call the Hall at 633-4487. This year’s addition of a craft fair will make the Common really alive and a fun way to spend Saturday morning. And, the Legion Auxiliary will have their breakfast sandwiches and the Post will have the grill on from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We are accepting all items for the yard sale now. We will pick up the items or you can drop off them off at the Hall. There is a plastic shed and a garage/tent in the back of the Hall.
If you haven’t been to a 36ers baseball game yet, you are missing watching great young baseball players who are the best of the best. This week home games were scheduled for the 10th at 6:30 p.m., and the 11th and the 13th – both doubleheaders starting at 5 p.m. Next week’s home game are on the 17th, 18th and 19th starting at 6:30 p.m. While you are watching, you can have a great dinner at the Snack Shack. There are picnic tables so you won’t miss the action. The food options will have something for everyone. All profits from the Snack Shack go to the Post to support the team.
I continually meet veterans who still think they aren’t eligible for the VA because they weren’t in the service for more than a couple of years. It is true that not all veterans are eligible for VA healthcare but eligibility has nothing to do with time served. Unless you have a service-connected medical situation or served in Vietnam for any length of time (and a couple of other unique situations), you need a minimum of two years active service. That’s all. The next step is if you can connect any medical issue you now have with the anything that happened to you in the service, then you likely have a service connected medical condition. This medical issue could have happened at home, on vacation, or on duty, it doesn’t matter, as long it happened while on active duty. If you think this might apply to you, contact Ed Harmon or David Patch and let one of us help you though the process. Filling a VA claim is painless and free! If you don’t want to fill out any paperwork it can be done for you by one of the many service officers. The American Legion, the VFW, the DAV, and the state of Maine all have service officers at Togus to help you file your claim. You don’t have to be a member of any of these organizations. Remember, you don’t have to give up your current medical provider, it just gives you another alternative.
See you at the ball game on July 17!
