American Legion Post 36

Mon, 03/07/2022 - 11:00am

Just a reminder that this Saturday, March 12 from 8 to 10 a.m., the Legion Auxiliary Team will be having their Wear'n the Green breakfast! A great way to prepare for St Patrick's Day on March 17. And the really good news is that spring is just over a week away, March 20! So, be Irish for the day and know that flowers are starting to bloom somewhere and join us for a great breakfast with all the breakfast items everyone always enjoys!

Speaking of breakfasts, our regular Sunday breakfasts start again on April 10. I am reasonably sure that our regular pianist, Bob Moore, will be providing his musical talents at all of our breakfasts again this year.

While summer still seems like a long way away, it is not too early to start planning on the events you are considering. One of the positives out of COVID was that we were able to do a complete “renovation” of the Hall. We showed it off last year and now it is becoming a favorite venue for special occasions. With 3000 sq ft of open space, state of the art audio visual system, complete commercial kitchen, and plenty of parking, it is perfect for events such as birthdays, receptions, business and community meetings, craft fairs, and yard sales, just to give you some ideas. And, the cost is reasonable. If you are a member of the Post, it is really reasonable. The Hall is already booking so to ensure a date, book soon.

March 29 is National Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day. The Post will be remembering our Vietnam Veterans on the 29th by hosting a pizza dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. for all veterans. Over 30 veterans have already signed up so if you haven't signed up yet, call the Hall at 633-4487 or Phil Chapman at 380-7020. For those who have memorabilia from your times there, please bring them. All veterans are welcome so please sign up and come. This event is free thanks to the generosity of so many of our community businesses. Rumor has it that beer and soda will be available!

On March 30, Travis Mills is hosting his Vietnam Veterans Day breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Augusta Armory for all veterans and guests. U.S. Army Staff Sargent (Retired) Travis Mills is an ardent supporter of our Vietnam Era Veterans and this event is a way for him to say 'thank you' to those who served during the Vietnam War. RSVP: give.classy.org/vietnameraveteransbreakfast or call (207) 480-3490.

As discussed last week, the Maine Veterans Home will be hosting a forum on March 14 to discuss the closing of the two Maine Veterans Homes in Machias and Caribou. The link to the forum has not be published yet, but will be posted on our Post Facebook and in the Register when it is.

The March 26 dinner has been cancelled.

The Post next meeting is Monday, March 14.
