American Legion Post 36

A few VA Maine updates. First, Togus will be providing flu shots on Oct. 3 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. using a drive-thru process. They will also be providing flu shots at all regularly scheduled VA appointments. You can also get your VA funded flu shots at our own Nathan’s, 185 Townsend Ave. (315-2280). You can find other non-VA locations at www.va.gov/find-locations

While Walgreens has provided VA funded flu shots in the past, they will not be this year.

Also on the VA front, our LincolnHealth St. Andrews Urgent Care Center is now in the VA system so if you use our Urgent Care Center, ensure you tell them you get your health care with the VA. You may be asked for your member number on your Veteran’s Healthcare Identification Card. Group is RX3841/BIN 004336. If you use your Medicare plan, the VA will not pay any co-pays. If you get a bill for using the Urgent Care facility, do not pay it but contact Togus at (207) 623-8411 ext 6669 (or contact me and will assist in rectifying the situation). The VA will pay for three visits to the Urgent Care facility per year. If you use it more than that, you will be charged $35/visit by the VA.

Post 36 is arranging to have a Zoom meeting with representatives of Martin’s Point to explain the pros and cons of Medicare Part B if you are over 65 and (1) are covered by the VA healthcare, (2) covered by the VA, and retired military, (3) covered by the VA and are paying for a Medicare Supplement or Advantage type insurance. Of course, any questions relative to health insurance can be asked as well. We are discussing the possible dates and times now with Martin’s Point but likely it will be the week of Oct. 19. Anyone interested in attending, please contact me, David Patch, at dapatch@roadrunner.com or call the Hall at 633-4487 and leave a message. Since it will be a Zoom meeting, you can connect from home as well.

Only three more breakfasts before we stop for the holidays and take a winter break. The next breakfast is Oct. 4. We had SOS as a special for this past breakfast, we plan on having another old favorite returning on the 4th. So, put the 4th on your calendar and join us!

As we approach the holidays (hard to believe I know), consider having your holiday event at the Hall. It is a large hall and plenty of room for social distancing. You can Zoom in your family and friends on the four large screens to join the event as well. For more info call the Hall at 633-4487.

Our next Post meeting is Oct, 12 at 6 p.m. Put it on your calendar and join us.
