This Sunday, June 14, we will have our first breakfast of the year. Obviously, things will be a little different so we are compliant with all the rules required by the state. So, just so everyone is prepared, when you arrive as you normally would, there will be someone at the door to greet you, welcome you, explain what the process will be, and request that you put your mask on. The donation table will be where it always is, but we will only be able to have one family in the entrance way while there is anyone making the donation. I have it on good authority that the weather will be great!

Once inside the Hall, you will approach the buffet line as always, but you will give your order to the server. That server will then fill your plate and place it on a table and the end of the line. No human contact, six feet separation. There will be a beverage station where a server will pour your coffee, OJ, and provide a cup of milk to drink or use on your cereal. Those items will also be place on the table for you to retrieve. Once you are at your table, inside or out, you can remove your mask. All items are throw away so no need for dishes to be collected.

This will be our first breakfast in this mode so we appreciate everyone’s cooperation and patience since I am sure their will be glitches. But, we all feel it is important that we start the process of getting back to normal. And, we all miss seeing one another and can catching up on all that has happened over the past winter.

Opening on June 14 is symbolic as it is also National Flag Day. Flag Day falls within National Flag Week, a time when Americans reflect on the foundations of the nation’s freedom. The flag of the United States represents freedom and has been an enduring symbol of the country’s ideals since its early days. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; on Aug. 3, 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress. So, after you go back home from breakfast, check out your flag. If the flag is no longer serviceable, return it to the Legion and we have flags we can sell you in return. Remember, flags come down at night unless you have a light on it. Appropriate flag etiquette is easy and if you aren’t sure, you can google it, or come to the Hall where we have flag etiquette pamphlets, free.

It would be great to see as many of you at the breakfast as possible. Remember this is a fundraiser and without any breakfasts for the past few months and no Hall rentals, this breakfast, and those the rest of the summer, are really important.
