American Legion Post 36

Mon, 04/01/2019 - 7:15pm

This Sunday, April 7, is the day everyone has been waiting for ... opening day for the famous Legion Breakfast! As always, doors open at 0700 and the recommended donation remains the same, $8. Boothbay Region Community Resource Council (BRCRC) will once again be sponsoring the popular waffle station. New this season are our fundraising place mats. A special thanks to all our participating companies.

Our breakfast partnership with BRCRC in 2018 allowed our Post to support their efforts for the community. This past week, Commander David Patch and Post Finance Officer and Adjutant Robert Raudenbush presented Katie White, BRCRC Executive Director, with a check for $969.

Hall rental season has started! Our 5,000 sq ft Hall and full commercial kitchen, with a capacity of up to 200 folks, has become a popular place to hold events. With recently renovated bathrooms, WiFi and cable TV, and plenty of parking, it is the perfect place for receptions, birthday parties, corporate and fundraising events, and craft shows. For example, on Saturday, June 8, the American Legion will be hosting a VA seminar to talk about VA healthcare and benefits from 0900 to noon. On Sunday evenings, the Boothbay Region Fellowship transforms the Hall into a church for services at 6. We already have wedding receptions booked. So, if you are planning on holding an event this summer, call 633-4487 or email dapatch@roadrunner.com to reserve the Hall.

The Post capital campaign is in full swing. I would like to thank the many who have already contributed. The purpose of the capital campaign is to replace the floor and the HVAC system to ensure the Hall will meet the needs of the community for years to come. Hall rentals are our primary source of funding to support our veteran community and programs for high school students such as Boys and Girls State. The American Legion Charles E Sherman Jr, Post 36 is a non-profit organization so all donations are tax deductible. All donations should be sent to American Legion Post 36, P.O. Box 874, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

The next Legion meeting on April 8 will have a special ceremony for all new Legion members. “New” meaning all Legionnaires who became members in 2018 and 2019. It would be great to have all new members to attend. If have been a member for years, this ceremony will remind you why you joined the Legion; so, if you haven’t been to a meeting in a while, this would be a great meeting to attend. In addition, nominations for officers will be made at this meeting as well. As always, dinner at 1730 with the meeting starting at 1800. Guests are always welcome.
