American Legion Post 36: The first of four pillars
Thanks to those who braved the cold temperature on "Patriot Victory" Sunday and fit in, between storms, a breakfast at the Post. We appreciated it very much. Our next is this Sunday, Feb. 15. We're serving hash. What a nice surprise additional Valentine’s Day gift this would be! Look for details in the paper under Goings On, on our Facebook page, or give me a call at 207-633-0617.

Kudos to Historical Society's Barbara Rumsey and helpers for the wonderful 4-part series of articles "Battleships in Boothbay." I sure enjoyed reading them all.

In 1919 the American Legion was founded. Let me explain the four pillars, of which I'll share one here and the rest in the coming columns. The first pillar is Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation. This entails GI benefits, Homelessness, Careers for Vets, VA Vet Centers, Access to VA Healthcare, and very important these days, VA Claims Backlog. I speak from experience when I say by joining the American Legion you are not just improving someone else's life, you're improving your own life by learning new skills, new trades, and you have a common goal to help veterans.
Saw this in the January issue of the Legion magazine and want to share it. Navy SEALS, especially one in particular, are a topic of discussion among many, and so thought it was a fitting item. "Live to be your most effective," former Navy SEAL Brent Gleeson said.
Seven rules learned in the service are: be loyal; put others before yourself; be reflective; be obsessively organized; assume you don't know enough; be detail-oriented; and never get comfortable
