Considering the position you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues?

Housing. Having personally experienced the housing shortage, I look to better understand what the historical challenges have been and where we go from here in an effort to provide year-round rentals and affordable homes for purchase. This subject has really started to garner more attention recently and I am optimistic that progress will come out of these recent conversations.

School. Seeking a better understanding of the impact that a new school brings to the taxpayers of this community and doing what is best for the children of this community. Although my child will not experience the benefits of this new school, I want to fully grasp the financial impact it will have on my household and the impact for the people of this community. Having a good school is fundamental to the health of any community.

Balance. Understanding the importance of balance with the growth and development of our community. Knowing and honoring the value of the heritage and the legacy of Boothbay Harbor has been and continues to be an important factor in the fabric of our town. Having worked in the hospitality industry for nearly my entire career, I understand the importance of hospitality. That industry and the “trickle-down effect” from our visitors of the region support our waitstaff and bartender friends, our fishing industry, our boat builders, front desk staff, kitchen staff, retail shop staff, property owners, gas stations, house cleaners, lawncare and property care companies, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, officiants, florists, charter boat operators, ceramic arts/home studios, coffee shops, sailmakers, hair dressers, hardware stores, manicurists, auto repair shops, general stores, and so much more. It is important we embrace our roots while we grow, as felt in the below quote from Barbara Rumsey of The Boothbay Region Historical Society.

“It’s interesting to see a mention of the early 1660s settlement in East Boothbay, to have Dunbar’s 1729 plans described, and to find that Boothbay was already a tourist town 185 years ago” – Barbara Rumsey

Any other thoughts on why you are running or what you can bring to the office?

My goal in becoming involved with the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce was to reunite our business community and to get BHRCC further involved within our community and with our schools, annual events, and more. We, as a Board, are working hard at that goal and while there is a long way to go, we have made progress that we are very proud of. My goal in becoming further involved with the town of Boothbay Harbor is to better understand what is happening, how it happens, to represent the voice of a child raised here, the voice of someone raising a child here and someone whose livelihood has been dependent on the decisions made here. Collaboration, active listening, and respect are of utmost importance to me and for our town. I look forward to the opportunity to bring those qualities to the Board.
