Mon, 06/06/2022 - 8:30am

The Church of All Saints by-the-Sea is pleased to announce that the 2022 season of worship will begin on Sunday, June 19 and conclude on Sunday, Sept. 11. This sacred space has been a summer spiritual home to worshippers of many faiths for over a century and we look forward to another summer of celebrating God’s love on Southport Island. Service times will return to 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. after the change in times due to Covid last season. The 10 a.m. service on June 19 will feature special recognition of the ministry of The Rev. Christopher (Kit) Sherrill who has served the chapel faithfully since 1967. We invite his many friends to attend as we celebrate his ministry.

Covid protocols will be relaxed if the community transmission levels remain low or moderate, however, we honor both those who wish to continue wearing masks and those who are comfortable not wearing masks. KN-95 masks will be available. Outdoor seating is available for those wishing additional social distancing. This season, singing will return as a vital part of our worship so long as community transmission remains at low or moderate levels. The Consecrated Host will be offered at communion. A coffee hour will follow the 10 a.m. service as long as community transmission levels are not rated as high.

All Saints continues its tradition of welcoming visiting clergy from across the country to preside each week sharing a wealth of wisdom and diversity. The season begins with Southport’s own The Rev. Dr. Virginia Sheay, one of the first women ordained in the Diocese of New Jersey. Rev. Sheay will also offer a special retreat “Mystics, Music and Musings” on Saturday, Aug. 13. The season will also feature returning favorites including the Rev. Martin Smith of Washington DC, Rev. Cristina Paglinauan of Baltimore, and the Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith of Massachusetts. We are delighted that the Rev. Juliana Anderson from West Boothbay Harbor will be rejoining us this summer. The Rev. Canon Katie Pearson from Denver, Colorado and The Rev. Victoria Sirota from Searsmont, Maine will be new clergy joining our worship this season.

The music program at All Saints will continue its excellence with Mr. Henry Lowe as the resident organist for the summer. Mr. Lowe has performed worldwide as a recitalist and accompanist and is retired from Church of the Redeemer in Baltimore and is a summer resident of Walpole. As a special treat for all area residents, Mr. Lowe will be presenting an organ recital on Saturday, July 30. Mr. Timothy Wissler, retired organist from the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta, Georgia and a summer resident of Linekin Bay, will lead our music on July 19 and Sept. 11. Mr. Timothy Harrell, from Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury, Pennsylvania will join us for the Aug. 21 services.

For those worshippers who do not yet wish to engage in in-person worship, recordings of the services will be available online the week after the service. We invite people of all faiths to join us, either in-person or virtually, as we grow in worship and prayer together. Readers can find out more about the clergy and organists, directions to the church, and other information on the church’s website, https://allsaintssouthport.org. All Saints has a dock and is accessible by private boat.
