A 250th celebration to remember
We want to thank all who attended our 250th celebration of Boothbay. It was a great birthday party. There are so many to thank for making it such a successful time.
A big thanks to Ralph Smith and crew from McSeagull’s, Mine Oyster and Boathouse Bistro. Ralph provided the food for the seafood festival on Friday night and the pig roast and beans on Saturday night. The food was excellent from reports and he also provided a free food bar for children under 12 years old.
Ralph also lined up the outstanding music, which included local musicians and two big bands from Portland.
Families enjoyed the food and danced to the music on the Common.
Carlton Plummer did the painting of Kenniston Hill for the poster. We still have posters for sale for $40. They can be purchased at Heads of the Harbor from Dawn, at The First bank from Brenda, or at McSeagull’s from Ralph.
Thanks to the following: Sen. Susan Collins for the gold lined Congressional Record presented in Congress on July 22, 2014, and Sen. Angus King for a Senatorial sentiment. Both are hanging in the Boothbay Town Office, along with the 250th poster; first lady Ann LePage for leading the parade; all of the people who participated in the parade, including the Boothbay Region Community Band, Kickstart Stables and Molly Stark's horses, Linda Verney from Woodsfield Farm with the horse and buggy rides; food vendors, Mary Lewis and crew, Shelley McLellan and crew, Katrina Dunsmore from the Ice Cream Hut; Scott Larsen for the bounce house; and Todd Fossett, Guy Peaslee and others for taking care of children; Nikki and John Pankowicz for clowns and face painting; Greg Latimer, Sally Lobkowicz for the Kenniston Hill cemetery tours; Gary Dow, Dan Bryer, Mary Brewer and Barbara Rumsey for putting the Boothbay historical displays together;
Danny Giles, Jon Marsh, Giles Rubbish, Martin Page, Boothbay Region Garden Club for their services; judges for the parade, Catherine Wygant Fossett, Chris Ward and Swing Lewis; Donna Closson, Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, Michelle Davis, Dina Rigas, Brenda and Leon Blackman, Boothbay Craft Brewery, Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford and crew, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Boothbay selectmen and town manager for letting us use the Common for the event, the Boothbay Town Office employees, Bonnie, Tracey and Heidi, the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor CSD for transportation to the Common and Ocean Point Marina, and many others.
For the spectacular fireworks display, thank you to Tom Nickerson, Boothbay Harbor Shipyard, Dan Miller and crew from Ocean Point Marina, the Boothbay Region High School soccer team for selling hot dogs and drinks, Pam Heino Aloupis for donating funds for fireworks in memory of her mother, Reona Heino, Steve Mason of Central Maine Pyrotechnics, the Navy Band Northeast from Newport, Rhode Island for the music before and during the fireworks.
