The 10th Annual Boothbay Region Elementary School Holiday Concert featuring grades K-4 was presented on Dec. 22 in the BRES gymnasium. Piano accompanists were fourth grade teacher Jen Lassen and music and theater teacher Mary Miller from Boothbay Region High School.

The program, composed of classic favorites performed by 137 students.opened with the Fourth Grade Band performing “Jingle Bell Rock” with teacher Mark Phillips; the Second and Fourth Grade Chorus singing “When Christmas Comes To Town;” the second grade sang a charming, not-so-familiar song, “I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas;” the kindergarten classes sang “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” and “Santa’s Elves” while playing hand bells and wooden rhythm sticks; students of Mrs. LeConte performed “Jingle Bell Rock,” which included dance steps and bells followed later by students playing “Let There Be Peace On Earth” with hand chimes; the third grade’s rousing “Deck the Halls” and “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas;” and the first grade’s “All I Want For Christmas” and “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.”

And, speaking of the North Pole’s Number 1 elf, Santa attended the concert as guest of honor and watched from a comfy rocking chair. Many of the children waved to him as they passed by on the way to their performance places.

After the concert all of the children received their first gift from Santa ... a candy cane, of course!
