LincolnHealth Wound Care Center staff will be honored as one of Healogics, Inc. top performers in its 2014 diabetes campaign.

A partnership between LincolnHealth and Healogics, a national leader in wound care and research, the LincolnHealth Wound Care Center in Boothbay Harbor features highly trained local providers using the latest technology to ensure every wound heals as quickly as possible.

Healogics encourages each Healogics Wound Care Center to utilize community outreach to educate healthcare providers about chronic wounds caused by diabetes. Staff at the center will honored with a plaque in recognition of their hard work during the 2014 campaign.

Understanding the effect of chronic wounds caused by diabetes is important in the Mid Coast region, because nearly 11 percent of the more than 26 thousand adults here are affected by diabetes.

Diabetes is a leading cause of non-traumatic lower limb amputation in the United States, according to the American Diabetes Association, with more than 60 percent of non-traumatic amputations for people over the age of 20 related to diabetes.

Since opening in February, the LincolnHealth Wound Care Center has achieved a healing rate of more than 94 percent with a median healing time of less than 20 days.

Headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, Healogics is the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Healogics and its affiliated companies manage nearly 800 Wound Care Centers in the nation and see more than 234,000 patients in 2014 through a connected network of centers, partner hospitals, academic medical centers, patients and families.
