The Woodchucks say thank you

Dear Editor:

On behalf of the Woodchucks and their parent organization, the Boothbay Region Community Resource Council, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who had a hand in donating to us a huge number of fine hardwood logs — oak, maple and birch. This was the result of the preparations currently underway to build the Boothbay Center roundabout. Many of the trees were located on town property and so we thank the Boothbay town manager and board of selectmen. Some of the trees came from land purchased by Paul Coulombe, so we thank him as well. Finally, we are grateful to the Sargent Construction Company, which was awarded the contract for construction of the roundabout, and their subcontractor, Hawkes Tree Service, of Phippsburg, which actually cut down the trees and delivered logs to us, all limbed and stacked.

The Woodchucks have already started processing the logs ... cutting them to stove length pieces and splitting and stacking them to season.

And so, no matter how folks may feel about the necessity for a roundabout, they can take some satisfaction in the fact that this wood will be donated to a large number of our friends and neighbors who depend on this wood to help keep their houses warm during our cold winter months.

Barclay Shepard
