Wood stove raffle benefits Newcastle teen, family

Thu, 05/09/2013 - 5:00pm

Fourteen-year-old Noah Jones of Newcastle is fighting the fight of his short life. He was diagnosed in March with high risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia and has been undergoing in-patient chemotherapy treatments at Maine Medical Center since then.

His family (mom Cathy, dad Tristram, brothers Sam, 16, Ethan, 12, and Eli, three and sister Justine, 29) have been by his side since then. They’re hoping that Noah’s white blood cell count will increase enough to allow him to go home soon.

As difficult as it is now, Noah’s fight is just beginning. Given the seriousness of his illness, Noah is facing three years of chemotherapy: a grueling schedule of in-patient treatments, oral and weekly out-patient infusion sessions.

To help the Jones’ family with the monumental costs associated with Noah’s illness, Maine Coast Stove & Chimney of Wiscasset is raffling off a Vermont Castings Savannah series steel wood stove. A 55,000 btu, mid-sized wood stove, the Savannah is rated to heat an area up to 2,200 square feet and has a retail price of $1,669.

Tickets are available at Maine Coast Stove & Chimney, 564 Bath Road (Route 1), between Ames Tru-Value and Shaw’s Supermarket. The cost of the raffle tickets will be $10. They will be for sale until the end of May and the winner will be chosen Saturday, June 1 at a BBQ at the store.

The company is currently hosting a “Make an Offer” tent sale for select wood, pellet and gas appliances and will provide a free raffle ticket to anyone who makes a purchase.

Noah is hoping to attend Lincoln Academy in the fall.  “He’s a fantastically resilient young man and we are so proud of how hard he’s working at getting well and how brave he is,” his mom, Cathy Jones said. “His positive attitude is nothing short of amazing.”

We’re counting on area residents to help make life a little easier for the Jones family and give Noah some much needed ammunition to fight his battle. Please call Robert or Shawn at Maine Coast Stove & Chimney, 207-882-7182 or stop by the store. Any readers who want to post this on their Facebook page are encouraged to do so.
