The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office has charged three local residents with several crimes. This series of charges began with an investigation into a burglary at a residence on the Hinks Road in Whitefield on March 12, 2014. The owner reported that someone had broken in to their home and stolen approximately $20,000 in cash, loose change and a shotgun.

As a result of an extensive investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff's Office, three subjects were ultimately charged.

On June 6, 2014, Jeffrey Lucas, age 38, of Augusta, was arrested and charged with burglary, theft (over $10k in value), theft of a firearm and operating after suspension.

On June 6, 2014, Janice Bachelder, age 36, of Edgecomb, was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution, receiving stolen property, and refusing to submit to arrest. She was also summonsed for another incident with trafficking of tobacco into an adult correctional facility. She had been bringing chewing tobacco to Jeremy Geroux while he was incarcerated at the Two Bridges Regional Jail on separate charges.

On June 16, 2014, Jeremy Geroux, age 36, of Wiscasset, was arrested and charged with burglary, theft (over $10k in value), theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, criminal mischief, and violating conditions of release. He was also summonsed for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash and operating after suspension in regards to a crash in Bristol in August 2013.

On July 3, 2014, Geroux was summonsed for cruelty to animals. This charge resulted from a search warrant that had been done on Geroux's cellular phone looking for further evidence pertaining to his original charges. During the examination of the phone, investigators discovered photos of Geroux having sexual contact with a dog.

Lucas has been released on bail, while both Bachelder and Geroux remain in custody.
