Thirteen new members joined the Boothbay Region High School chapter of the National Honor Society during an induction ceremony held Thursday, March 19 in the BRHS Porter Memorial Gymnasium.

Four seniors and nine juniors were inducted into the NHS for their outstanding scholarship, leadership, service and character. The NHS was established in 1921 to honor high school students. At BRHS, juniors and seniors are considered for induction.

The new inductees include seniors Eben Goodwin, Christopher Groneng, Chloe Hoecker, Taylor Walby; and juniors Anna Baumm, Samantha Carter, Marinel Demmons, Gretchen Elder, Angela Machon, Hannah Morley, Lisa Pawlowski, Gabriel Purin and Bradford Tibbetts. Tibbetts was not at the ceremony, which lasted about 25 minutes and was attended by about 50 parents, grandparents, family members and faculty. BRHS principal Dan Welch gave the welcoming address, Superintendent of Schools Eileen King spoke about the importance of character and congratulated the inductees, and Brenna Alley read a poem, “Life is ...” written by Mother Teresa.

Each inductee was introduced by master of ceremonies Karl Alamo, one of the nine current members of the NHS who helped conduct the ceremony. Those students include seniors Kyle Alamo, Brenna Alley, Courtney Brewer, Nicole LaBrecque, David Machon, Sinead Miller, Collin Thompson and Zachary Vise.

Sticking with tradition, each inductee lit a candle, received an NHS pin, signed the NHS ledger and were presented with a membership certificate.

Everyone was offered cake, brownies, lemonade, ice tea and coffee following the ceremony.
