Thank you, educators

Dear Editor:

Joining the fundraising for the CBS 13 WGME School Spirit Challenge, the Boothbay Region Education Association (BREA) has given $300 to further fuel Boothbay Region High School’s contribution to the charity Good Shepherd Food Bank as we race for first place and the coveted Spirit Cup Trophy against the other eight high schools participating.

On behalf of the BRHS Student Council and the National Honor Society, I would like to thank the members of the BREA for their generosity.

The CBS 13 WGME School Spirit Challenge is a competition between high schools in Southern and Central Maine to raise food and funds for the Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn which distributes food to local community food banks such as the Boothbay Region Food Pantry.  The challenge also allows each high school to show off their school spirit and pride while ultimately helping the community and those in Maine without sufficient amounts of food. In this ongoing food drive, each school prepares for a two-hour-long pep rally that will be broadcast live on Good Day Maine beginning at 6 a.m. on Channel 13. Boothbay Region High School and Winslow were chosen to host their pep rallies on Feb. 27.

The participating high schools, along with BRHS, are Mt. Ararat, Gould Academy, Kents Hill, Cony, McAuley, St. Dominic, Lake Region and Winslow.

One dollar equates to about five pounds of food and in all the fundraising, the BREA has made our school 1,500 pounds of food stronger. With that generous donation, I challenge other organizations and associations to exceed the $300 given to us.

Despite our numbers, compared to the larger schools participating, the Boothbay region community has proven itself to be stronger at heart.

Our strength as a whole has allowed us to achieve the impossible and to reach out as one to those in need.

We have been given the opportunity to expand our efforts statewide to all. Let’s step up and show the rest of Maine all the collective power that the Boothbay region community can possess.
