letter to the editor

Suddenly, clear as day

Dear Editor:

Why the increasingly vehement attacks in America against Christianity, voter ID/in-person elections, and constitutional law?

The answer may lie in the entire history of civilization, a grim and seemingly endless cycle of civilized order devolving into bloody chaos, and back again to order, always in the form of a suppressed majority exploited by a tyrannical minority.

That is, until the year 1776 when our God-fearing founders somehow managed to defeat tyranny, and create a completely new kind of order based on a government of legitimately elected representatives guided by a carefully written set of rules called the Constitution.

And so, all we Americans have ever really had standing between us and tyranny are traditional western morality, fair and legitimate elections, and our written Constitution.

In this simple and non-philosophical context, it is easy to understand why the relentlessly determined agents of chaos among us have so carefully chosen their three obvious targets, and why we must defend those targets to the death if we wish to keep our unique representative republic as free as the day it was born.
